Teaching
is not a one way street
it is sharing knowledge
As a student I was mainly taught the technique of the left and right hand but with the study
of Iyengar Yoga and reading some of Yehudi Menhuin's works I
began to under the whole physicality of violin playing.
With individual tuition I teach intermediate and advanced players the basis
of improvising, chord usage and soloing. I develop awareness of correct
physical co-ordination and movement as most technique is derived from proper
breathing, posture and practice. Fiddle styles are developed through listening
and learning tunes by ear. Good "ear" skills are essential for both classical
non-classical players.

Classes are a great way to give students ensemble skills. Jamming is terrific fun and the basis of traditional fiddle playing. It's not only essential to develop listening skills but a great way for students to interact. I have conducted classes/performances in schools such as Monte Saint Angelo and Scotts College, Sydney as well as far flung places like Alice Springs etc.
With the help of Anita MacGregor
